More Hiking around the Port

abril 24, 2011 Deja un comentario

Citric Hotel is frequented by many hikers and outdoorsmen. It’s not surprising when you consider the many quality hiking trails near Port de Soller and it’s surroundings. One of these trails is GR-221, which connects several towns on the northwest coast of the island.

One one of my days off I decided to take a full-day excursion on GR-221. From the Port the trail climbs to progressively higher and higher altitudes, offering stunning view of Soller. You will also pass through the charming nearby village of Biniaraix. After Biniaraix you enter the mountains and are greeted by the sites of olive trees, old stone walls, and maybe even a sheep or two. The trail is well-marked, easy to follow, and offers a number of «water points» for you to refill your bottle.

Originally, only planned to hike for a few hours before retuning back to Citric Hotel. But it was difficult for me to stop when around every corner I discovered another beautiful vista . Pack a lunch and leave yourself plenty of time to enjoy this beautiful path. You won’t be disappointed .

My Journey to Port de Sóller

marzo 21, 2011 Deja un comentario

Hello everyone! My name is Pat and I am a recent college graduate from the United States. I am currently on a working vacation at Citric Hotel in Port de Soller. I will be sharing some of my experiences with Citric Hotel, Port de Soller, and excursions in Mallorca on this blog. Hopefully my posts will help give you a sense of what the hotel, town, and surrounding areas are like.

I arrived in Mallorca five days ago after a long series of flights that took me from Philadelphia to Palma de Mallorca. From the airport I took a bus (1) to Placa de Espanya, a transit center that connects the metro, trains, and local and regional busses. After a short wait I grabbed an express bus (L211) from Palma to Port de Sóller. The journey was very easy, took about an hour, and cost less than 5€. There is also room on both busses for luggage, so don’t worry about that. The public transportation was also very easy to navigate considering how limited my Spanish skills are.
After a very short walk from the bus stop I was greeted with sight of Port de Sóller in all its glory. It is difficult for me to do justice to the natural beauty of Port de Sóller with words, so I will try to upload as many photos as possible over the next few weeks. I’ve included one here to get your started. In short, the town sits between a beautiful natural port and mountains.

Welcome to Port de Sóller

It was very easy for me to find the hotel since it sits right above the water on the Western edge of the port. This location gives the hotel an incredible panoramic view of the town. Once I arrived I was greeted by Maria Antonia, a receptionist and manager. Maria Antonia speaks English very well (and  humors my attempts at Spanish), so I was set up very quickly. After I checked in, Kyle gave me a tour of the hotel and showed me our room. Needless to say, after a very long day and several thousand miles of travelling I was happy to finally find my bed.

Next time: Hiking around Mallorca.
